There are numbers of R&Ds that are going on right now about ways of displaying contents on unconventional screens. One of them is what we call ‘Architectural Display' which is all about understanding unique character of a certain building and projecting 3D images on it.

First thing we needed to do before doing anything architectural was to understand how to make the images or movies work perfectly on variable surface of a building. Well, we started with files of boxes. We created an artificial structure with the boxes, calculated various factors including projector-surface distance, angles of projection and lenses and came up with a virtual 3D space. Then we synchronized grid with the surface and projected pre-designed contents. The test for ‘light movement' and ‘shadowing' was quite successful.

Now, it was ‘take-it-outside' time. We picked a target building, carefully selected projector (15,000 ANSI LUMEN) location, painfully considered projector-target distance, projection area, etc to find out the right projector lens. And we started shooting more than 12 pre-produced contents.

Architectural display is like a giving a fresh life of light and motion to dead-cold buildings or cities. Since it is not a small display only for limited number of spectators on the right side, we'll continue to work to deliver more visually and mentally effective content that everyone around it can enjoy and love.
